Keyventory was started as collaboration between the owners of a vacation property agency and a software-consulting firm. They began working together to solve the daily business problem of tracking thousands of assets, like keys, fobs, rings and many other small assets that pass through their office on any given day. They realized that to get the functionality and features they really needed to make this system effective, this product would exceed the scope and budget of a custom development project. Rather than try to solve their inventory problems for a single company they decided to join forces and start a new company to build a product that would have all the required features and be flexible enough to work for all commercial real estate management companies and any other company with asset management needs. They came up with a solution that works on any computer with a USB port for a bar code scanner and a web cam. The system supports multiple employees, and allows business managers to track exactly which employees sent each asset to each tenant, cleaning staff, vendors, other employees, maintenance staff etc.
