Custom Tags, Labels, Webcams and Bar Code Dealers
Keyventory will work with any printed bar codes and any USB bar code reader. Below is a list of preferred vendors to help get you up and running with Keyventory. You can also purchase our Keyventory branded tags and labels above, or work with your own vendors for printed items and bar code readers. All bar codes are compatible with the Keventory website and system and are printed with the Keyventory address in case of loss.
Unique Bar Code Number for Tags and Labels
Please make sure you give a different range of numbers for all your tags and labels to ensure your company can never have two assets with the same bar codes. For example, your first run of tags could be in the range of 100001-105001 while your first run of labels could be 200001-205001.
Custom Tags
Keyventory branded tags were printed by Vanguard ID Systems. Contact them if you would like custom tags printed with your company’s logo. If you mention Keyventory while placing a custom order before November 30, 2012, they will waive their standard $50 setup fee. Their turnaround time is usually between one to two weeks from artwork to approval. They also print inexpensive laminated labels. Please note that these labels are not waterproof and if you require a more durable waterproof label see the ImageTek information below.

Durable Custom Labels
Iif you need more durable labels for an asset that gets exposed to the weather, like beach chairs or sporting goods, we recommend they get printed on polyester or polypropylene which are available through ImageTek Labels. Depending on their durability they run between $80 to $160 per roll of 2000 plus a one time setup fee of $75.

Webcams
Most inexpensive webcams work very well for use with the Keyventory system. Since your images are compressed there really is no advantage in purchasing a high quality camera. The Logitech USB Webcam C160 is available through Amazon.com

The only time the webcam is used in the Keyventory system is when assets are created.Keyventory was developed to work with most webcams and browsers but works most consistently with Microsoft IE. If you need the system to work with another web browser for cataloging assets contact support@keyventory.com and we will send you additional setup instructions.
If you are cataloging multiple assets, we recommend clipping the webcam to a fixed position using a lamp or wall bracket to speed up the process. Pictures look best taken over a flat white background with well-lit, indirect light.
Bar Code Scanners
We have quotes for bar code scanners ranging from $86 to $480 from Barcodes Inc. (service contracts are optional). The question of what bar code scanner is right for your company depends on the following: The $86 CCD scanner is slow and requires you to practically touch the bar code to the scanner.
The higher end scanners use lasers and work much faster and at a greater distance from the bar code. You may also have need for a wireless scanner.
If you have many assets and the speed of check out and check in is an issue, the more expensive bar code readers work much better. In terms of speed and employee compliance, we recommend you invest in the faster bar code readers.
